Each morning Mabel and Gladys busy themselves in their charming tea room as they prepare for the day’s influx of visitors. The urn must be heated, the cakes unwrapped and the cheese and cucumber sandwiches lovingly made.
Soon the shop door bell will announce the first customer of the day. Every new arrival has a tale to tell over the Darjeeling and lemon drizzle, allowing guests and staff alike to forget for a while the scenes beyond the lace curtains. Is it vampires or zombies today? Or have the elder gods risen from the abyss to rain devastation down on the earth?
Whatever the apocalypse, the Tea Room at the End of the World is a haven away from it all. But something is coming – something that will mean Mabel and her team must make a momentous decision. Do they remain sheltered within the sanctuary of the tea room, or should they kit themselves out in full protective gear, arm themselves with the very latest in Cuisinart hardware and venture … outside?
The clock’s ticking.
If Keith has remembered to wind it.
Why a Tea Room at the End of the World?
Well, let’s face it, when we’re confronted with the apocalypse it’s essential to be fortified with a nice pot of Darjeeling and a slice of madeira.
The Tea Room emerged from my love of club stories and the fiction trope of the Inn Between the Worlds. What better location for a group of disparate travellers to find sanctuary and tell their tales than a charming Cotswold tea room? Albeit one where an ever-changing apocalypse played out beyond its mullioned windows.
Like the tea, the collection is brewing. Put your feet up and enjoy a nice cuppa while you wait.
